SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A La Quinta establishment has lost its privilege to serve, as the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) has taken the severe step of suspending the license of Beer Hunter Sports Bar & Grill. The action stems from a deeply troubling incident on January 24, 2024, when employees at the bar allegedly facilitated a tragedy by serving alcohol to two minors who were clearly intoxicated. The consequences were dire: one of the underage individuals, after striking a parked vehicle, then entered the roadway and was hit by an oncoming car, suffering severe injuries.
The ABC wasted no time, launching an immediate TRACE (Target Responsibility for Alcohol Connected Emergencies) investigation to pinpoint how these minors obtained the alcohol. Their findings were stark: two bartenders on duty simply failed to verify identification before serving the minors.
“Our core mission includes shielding minors from the dangers of alcohol,” stated ABC Acting Director Frank Robles. “This incident underscores the absolute necessity for businesses and their staff to rigorously check IDs and actively contribute to the safety of our communities.”
Beer Hunter Sports Bar & Grill now faces significant disciplinary repercussions, cited for multiple violations including the provision of alcohol to a minor resulting in great bodily injury or death, illegal sales to minors, serving an obviously intoxicated patron, and other operational infractions.
This critical investigative work is made possible by the TRACE program, an initiative funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The program specifically targets alcohol-related incidents where individuals under 21 cause serious injury or death, or where vehicular manslaughter occurs under the influence of alcohol, regardless of age.
